Remembrance of Me

What will people remember the most about me is that I was a quiet nice person who cares about other people.  I am truly grateful to God for the life that I have.  I have a great family and I know that I am loved.  I have always been a good friend who would do what I could to help you.  Because of the values I have instilled in my children, they have grown to be good productive people.  They tell me all the time that they are glad now, how I would discipline them when they misbehaved. There are a lot of gifts and abilities that God has given me and I know that I have not used them to the best of my abilities.  When I finally stopped worrying about being a failure, I decided to get over my fears and following my dreams.  I'm going back to school to pursue the career I've always wanted, and working hard to live the best life in God's eyes.  I am truly grateful to God  for all the gifts and blessings He has given me.

Expectations to be a winner

  • Be a pro.
  • Act like a champion.
  • Respond to adversity; don't react.
  • Be on time. Being late means either it's not important to you or you can't be relied upon.
  • Execute. Do what you're suppose to do when you are suppose to do it. Not almost. All the way. Not most of the time. All of the time.
  • Take ownership.
(Quiet Strength 116)

At like a champion, is the characteristic I feel is the most important. Being a champion is all of these choices tied into one. Its takes being on time, acting in a professional manner, the way you carry yourself, and taking ownership or responsibility for your actions all are great examples of being a champion.  In sports, only one team can be the winner of that game, but even the team who loses can still be champions if they show a positive attitude and strive even harder to win the game the next time.

Personal Response

In the story, Quiet Strength, by Tony Dungy, I was really surprised that I find the book interesting.  I thought it  would be all about football, which I don't know anything about. The first few chapters is telling the story of a young mans journey to reach his goals and not giving up.  The fact that he honors God and puts scripture in the book is also enjoyable to me.  It is inspiring to know that seemingly rough football players admits to putting God first.

Quiet Strength Chapters 1-6 Summary

In the book Quiet Strength, by Tony Dungy, the author states that in chapter one how Tony felt the night of January 14, 2002, that his spirit was like the dark clouds in the sky.  It was the night that Tony Dungy cleaned out his office because he had been fired from being the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The author talks about the positive influence his parent made on his life by instilling strong Christian values, the importance of a college education, and the need for positive extracurricular sports. The author speaks on how Tony had to face the problems of racial inequality in his early years of playing football because he was black. He focuses on all the positive role models he had in high school, such as his principle Mr. Rockquemore.  He goes on the explain how he met and married his wife Lauren and some of the challenges they faced because of his career.

Definition of Success

Success means finding true peace and happiness with yourself.  If you have inner peace, you will have the confidence it takes to achieve every goal you set for yourself.  Success is having someone to love and they love you back.  Success means that know matter how bad the situation in your life may look, you can still make it through.  Success means to live your life as happy and fulfilled as you can, because when your time comes to end you can honestly say you have no regrets.  With God's help, I can do and endure all things.
